About Me
David Wirth is a U.S. Air Force veteran holding a Ph.D. in Nanoengineering from UCSD. He also holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA.
David is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, a former USPTO Patent Examiner, and a named inventor on various interdisciplinary patents, as well as a scientific author in the fields of solid rocketry, additive manufacturing, and materials engineering.
In 2018, he was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the field of manufacturing.
Before his doctoral studies, David served as an Air Force officer, a mechanical design engineer at ASML, co-founded the venture-backed startup Fabric8Labs, and later co-founded Arcflash Labs. He currently serves as an Electromagnetics advisor for Applied Physics, a Technical Advisor for Arcflash Labs, and an Intellectual Property advisor for Craitor in San Diego.
His proven track record of success in ambitious R&D projects across various fields has resulted in David’s work being featured in numerous publications and media outlets including Popular Science, The Discovery Channel, and Nature Nanotechnology.

David grew up in San Diego, California and lived in Los Angeles during his undergraduate study at UCLA. He commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in 2012 and served at Sheppard AFB, Texas and Wright-Patteron AFB, Ohio. He separated from the USAF as a Captain at the Air Force Research Lab. After military service, he returned to San Diego where he has remained throughout his work in industry, his doctoral studies at UCSD, and thereafter.
In his free time he enjoys long-distance running, meditation, snowboarding, volunteering and writing fiction.
